Summary

Persons with disabilities in Pakistan are more than the combined population of Multan, Hyderabad and Peshawar (HHRD). Limited educational and skills training opportunities put them at a disadvantage when they seek employment. At NOWPDP, we train persons with disabilities in market-relevant skills followed by facilitation for job placements. Every year this initiative transform lives of 500 persons with disabilities. With this campaign, we aim to raise funds for 100 persons with disabilities.

Challenge

In Pakistan, there are very few vocational training and skills development opportunities for persons with disabilities. The mainstream institutes lack reasonable accommodations required for persons with disabilities, and special schools often do not have the resources or expertise to offer vocational training. Both these factors combine to limit the access of persons with disabilities to skills development opportunities, which subsequently puts them at a disadvantage when they seek employment.

Solution

NOWPDP provides vocational training in different market relevant skills, such as 1) computer operations, 2) call centre operations, 3) mobile repairing, and 4) sewing and cutting to people with disabilities. Through the six month training, the candidates learn these skills, and become adept at using skill relevant technology, and can pursue careers in those field.

Long-Term Impact

By equipping people with disabilities with the adequate skills in the aforementioned skills, NOWPDP enables them to pursue employment opportunities, which ultimately contributes towards their socio-economic inclusion. NOWPDP has provided training to over 1000 people with disabilities to date, and help transform their lives. The project will provide vocational training to 100 persons with disabilities, allowing them to provide for their own and families' health and well being.
