Lighting children's path through Education

By Julia Matthew | Managing Director

Dear Friend,

It is of utmost importance to provide educational opportunities to every child, regardless of their background or circumstances.

India, a land of contrasts, is home to bustling cities and sprawling slums, where the stark reality of poverty is vividly evident. Within these slums, a significant population of children faces a myriad of challenges that often go unnoticed. These children, living on the margins of society, confront obstacles that threaten their well-being, education, and prospects.

One of the most pressing challenges faced by slum children in India is the lack of access to quality education. Despite the government's efforts to promote universal education through initiatives such as the Right to Education Act of 2009, many children in slums remain out of school. The combination of economic hardship, inadequate infrastructure, and social barriers creates a formidable barrier to education for these young minds. As a result, they are deprived of the opportunity to break free from the cycle of poverty and realize their full potential.

The El Shaddai Educational programmes ensure young students from slums and rural areas gain free education and change their lives for a better one.

El Shaddai provides multi-grade teaching where students of different age groups and levels of learning are taught under one roof. The Educational Projects will provide school supplies, fees, and meals along with free health and medical care.

We have a touching story of a boy named Sohan (name changed) who used to sell plastic bags in the market. He lost his mother when he was just 2 years old and his father became paralyzed. No one ever cared for this family and they suffered in silence. But then their luck was about to change and he came across our health camp held at one of our community centres in the south and he told them his story. Immediately our staff enrolled him at our daycare shelter and carer for his father. Being a bright child he excelled in his studies and is presently in his last year of secondary education. We truly believe that this child is going to use this opportunity to shine in the future.

To date, we have reached out to 656,462 children and helped in making their dreams come true. We have been able to support all these children only with your continuous help and support and we are truly grateful for all the love you have given to the El Shaddai family.

By investing in the education of these children, we can unlock their potential and pave the way for a brighter, more equitable future for all.

With gratitude,

El Shaddai family!
