Aid organizations fighting Ebola desperately need faster access to data from the field. Journey has built an app for health workers and volunteers, which saves time and provides decision makers with instant access to data. Already, 20 phones have been purchased for two NGOs in West Africa, which are already running the app. The project aims to give another 100 health workers low-end Android phones, with the app installed.
Aid organizations rely on data from the field to make their decisions. Unfortunately they currently have to use paper forms to collect data. This means that data takes days to get to the organizations. Paper-based data is also inaccurate and cannot accurately capture things like location data. That means aid organizations are always "one step behind" Ebola, and can't direct their efforts in the most effective way.
Information is collected using Android phones and the data is immediately online and visible to decision makers. This allows aid organizations to make informed decisions, and by removing processing of paper, the app frees up time and resources so health workers can focus on patients. NGOs are also in a position to manage their workforce much more effectively.
These phones will be owned by the recipient organizations. When the Ebola epidemic is over, Journey will adapt the apps for general aid work, so all the Android phones will continue to be used for a long time. Journey has previously worked on education and mHealth projects in Africa. We are confident that your donation will have a lasting impact in these communities. We will work with the NGOs to put all non-confidential data (i.e. patient specific) online so that you can track their progress.
