Tooth loss affects confidence, nutrition, and speech for many low-income Nigerians who cannot afford dentures. The SMILE Project by Equitable Medicaid and Clinical Research will provide free dentures, oral checkups, and dental health education to disadvantaged adults in rural and urban communities. By restoring smiles and improving oral health, this project will help participants regain confidence, eat comfortably, and live healthier lives. The projects aims to reach more than 3000 beneficiaries
Many poor and elderly Nigerians suffer from tooth loss due to decay, gum disease, and lack of dental care. Dentures are expensive and often beyond reach for low-income individuals. Tooth loss leads to poor nutrition, speech difficulty, and social stigma. In underserved communities, oral health is rarely prioritized, leaving thousands unable to smile or eat properly, which affects their confidence and quality of life.
The SMILE Project will organize free dental outreach camps, oral screenings, and denture fittings in rural and urban areas. Partnering with dentists and dental technicians, the project will provide free dentures to those in need. It will also include awareness sessions on oral hygiene, preventive care, and nutrition. By restoring missing teeth and offering basic dental education, we will improve oral health and well-being for disadvantaged adults.
Providing dentures will help hundreds of people eat better, speak clearly, and regain confidence. Improved oral health will lead to better nutrition and overall wellness. The awareness campaigns will teach families about dental care, reducing future tooth loss. Over time, the SMILE Project will create lasting community benefits by promoting healthy habits, restoring dignity, and showing that dental care should be accessible to everyone.
