Overview

From October 2025 to January 2026, Japan Heart’s Smile Smile Project continued to bring joy, connection, and meaningful moments to children facing pediatric cancer and their families in Japan. Across this period, SSP organized a series of memorable outings, interactive experiences, and community activities that allowed children to step outside the treatment environment, embrace fun and adventure, and build treasured memories with loved ones.

These efforts reinforced the idea that supporting mental and emotional well-being is an indispensable part of holistic care strengthening not just spirits, but the bonds between patients, families, volunteers, and supporters alike.

Key Updates & Achievements

“Takachan’s Special Family Outing” (October 12, 2025) (October 12, 2025)

Children and their families enjoyed a special outing outside the hospital environment, giving them a chance to share laughter, rebuild energy, and create precious memories beyond treatment routines.

Achievement: Families reported that the smiles and moments of normalcy strengthened their emotional resilience and provided encouragement in ongoing treatment.

“A-kun’s First Fun Experience” (October 18, 2025)

A-kun participated in his first fun outing with SSP support, where he tried new activities and interacted with volunteers and other children.

Achievement: A-kun’s confidence increased as he engaged in experiences that were unrelated to treatment, helping him feel more empowered.

“Sou-chan’s Osaka Trip” (November 16, 2025)

Sou-chan and his family traveled to Osaka, exploring the city and enjoying the day as a family unit.

Achievement: The event helped restore a sense of normal life for Sou-chan and his family, reinforcing the importance of shared family experiences during treatment.

“A Special Day at Universal Studios Japan with Sysmex” (November 25, 2025)

Children and families were invited to Universal Studios Japan with SSP support, creating a joyful and memorable day together.

Achievement: This experience provided a meaningful break from medical routines and fostered smiles and connection among participants.

“KidZania Tokyo Event” (December 3, 2025)

Multiple children and families participated in a KidZania Tokyo event, trying various role-play activities while dressed in colorful uniforms.

Achievement: Children developed a sense of pride and joy through interactive engagement, building self-confidence and social connection.

“Yukiya-kun’s Christmas Theater & Dinner” (December 27, 2025)

The project organized a special holiday event featuring a theater screening and a shared dinner for children and their families.

Achievement: The festive gathering fostered warmth, togetherness, and celebration at the end of the year, helping families feel supported and connected.

“Lemonade Stand at Kawasaki SDGs Partner Festival” (January 4, 2026)

SSP hosted a charity lemonade stand at a local festival, engaging with the community and spreading awareness of pediatric cancer support.

Achievement: Despite rainy weather, the team successfully sold all their lemonade and received positive engagement from festival attendees, expanding community support and visibility for SSP.

Upcoming Goals

Looking ahead, the Smile Smile Project aims to:

  • Expand opportunities for children and families to experience joyful, confidence-building outings that create lasting memories.
  • Continue strengthening emotional support by involving SSP staff and volunteers who can accompany families throughout experiences.
  • Enhance community awareness and engagement to build broader support for pediatric cancer families across Japan.
  • Foster SSP volunteer growth and participation, encouraging people to connect deeply with families through shared journeys of hope and resilience.

These goals reflect SSP’s ongoing commitment to supporting the whole child not only in medical treatment but in life and joy.
