Nancy installing a smokeless stove

Thank you for your support of this project bringing life saving smokeless cooking to homes across Kericho County.  This update focuses on the story of a stove insaller and it comes from Beatrice Wambia, Senior Field Officer for Brighter Communities Worldwide Health Programme.

"Nancy is one of the trained smokeless stove installers from Tebesonik village in Bureti subcounty. Nancy is very happy after having the knowledge to install a smokeless stove in her own kitchen and for her community members. Here is what she says

I have spent most of my time cooking  for my family using traditional three- stone fire. The smoke from the fire filled my small cooking place and this caused coughing, eye irritation and sometimes breathing problems. Firewood collection was also time consuming because I went to the forest several times in a week.

Since I installed this smokeless stove in my kitchen, it has no smoke and this has greatly reduced respiratory problems and eye irritations. My kitchen is now cleaner and more comfortable.

I use less firewood compared to the traditional open fire. I now spend less time collecting firewood and save more time to do household chores and help children with homework.

This is also a source of income for my family because after installing the smokeless stove I get some money to buy household needs.

I have now become an advocate for smokeless stove and I have encouraged more community members to adopt the smokeless stove.

Asante sana Brighter Communities Worldwide for empowering me  with skills to install the smokeless stoves in my communities.’"
