Summary

Snehalaya will launch a targeted campaign to reach an estimated 27,600 high-risk people in the Ahmednagar District with a radio lead road show event that brings the Stand #withMalala campaign to the district's slum villages and more remote communities. After bringing 'He Named Me Malala' to several thousand during the film's theatrical release period, Snehayala will now bring the film and important debate to the wider district, reaching both high-risk communities and stakeholders in education.

Challenge

In Ahmednagar (population 4,500,000), there is much need to advocate for girls' education amongst Dalit, tribal and nomadic communities, as well as Muslim groups and people from lower socio-economic backgrounds. Ahmednagar is a thoroughfare on India's busy road network and there is heavy human trafficking into the region that increases demand for commercial sex from the numerous truck drivers that pass through. Sadly, young girls are often kept out of school, forced to work in these sex rings.

Solution

With access to and through trust that has been built with high-risk communities, Snehalaya helps minors forced into prostitution and other forms of slavery and abuse get out of these situations and access health and educational services. 'He Named Me Malala' is an educational resource to further our work advocating for all girls' right to an education.

Long-Term Impact

Help girls discover that their voices together can make a mighty roar in their hope for change.
