This project is to show the De-Feet domestic violence documentary, targeting behavioral change: attitudes and perceptions that are the root cause of domestic violence in Kenya, which in recent months has resulted in 3 deaths of women every week. 42 crucial meetings in 6 months-project to end in 3 years-with an expert panel and Q& A after the show: to change retrogressive attitudes toward women in 24 villages and 20 towns, resulting in 75% participants change their negative beliefs.
3 women die every week in Kenya as a result of domestic violence. The most common form of violence in Kenya is intimate partner violence. Women are at a risk of wife-beating and children are a risk of harsh corporal punishment where this is still practised in many communities in Kenya. According to the Cabinet Secretay Gender, in July 2020, 853 women were beaten in their homes and child defilement caused a total of 5,000 teen pregnancies countrywide, creating a social crisis.
The documentary shows will challenge the social norms and individual beliefs at the root of domestic violence. If the documentary is shown,75% of women will face less risk of wife-beating through the promotion of equitable gender norms and respect for women. 10% of male participants will be recruited for our Men United against Domestic Violence movement. Pre-test and post-test questionnaire to participants will show 75% of change attitudes and perceptions. 75% of population will be aware DV.
The benefits are as follows: - 2100 participants will be educated in the problem of domestic violence. -75% media coverage and national and county government endorsements - 50% increase in stakeholders donations -75% population will change negative attitudes and perceptions toward violence against women. -75% of Women and children will report increased self-esteem and assertiveness and 75% men will learn how to be non-perpetrators. -90% Children will be protected from violence.
