Successful implementation of new programs in social enterprise development

By Norby R. Salonga | Director, LSEED Center

The Lasallian Social Entrerprise for Economic Development (LSEED) Center has successfully implemented the Angat Buhay Young Social Entrepreneurs Program (ABY SEP) and the KAagapay sa Yugto-yugto at Abot-kayang Negosyo Project (KAYA). These efforts provided marginalized communities with formation, mentorship and resources in establishing community-based social enterprises. A total of 37 social enterprises has been estalbished with 176 trained social entrepreneurs.

Moreover, the Center is also successful with the Batch 1 of the LSEED Certificate Program or the Basic Certificate Course in Social Entrepreneurship. Its curricular initiatives, SAS 2000 and NSTP-LSEED managed to introduce the concept of social entrepreneurship to 838 freshmen and 103 sophomore students, respectively for AY 2021-2022. On the other hand, the Service Learning effort was able to implement 25 projects in 25 communities, involving a total of 196 students. Said projects were successful in documenting social enterprise plans, developing interventions in marketing, logistics management, financial management, as well as in providing capacity building sessions.

For AY 2022-2023, LSEED has expanded its academic programs. It has also formally launched a new initiative for student organization called Social Enterprise Development for Student Organizations (SEDSO) in partnership with the student affairs office and the student council. This effort is meant to recalibrate the social engagement efforts of student organizations, with alignment with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) through social entrepreneurship. LSEED Online Mentoring (LOM) version 2.0 was also pilot tested. The new mentoring strategy of the LSEED Center through LOM captures the growth and progress of social enterprises using a centralized database, designed primarily for the LOM sessions.
