Support governmental efforts in Asia to protect citizen rights and implement existing criminal laws by providing training, legal and administrative structural support, and material assistance.
International Bridges to Justice has launched an exciting program to help Chinese public defenders to secure access to justice for their clients. The two week January 20 - February 4, 2007 Chinese Defender Training for Trainers Program, co-sponsored by International Bridges to Justice and the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia and hosted by the Greater Washington IBJ Community of Conscience, will serve as a national model for replication in other cities.
Train Chinese public defenders in applicable trial advocacy skills to enhance their capability to ensure access to justice. Lawyers will also be trained to train other criminal defenders to improve and excel in the defense of the indigent accused.
By raising awareness of legal rights and developing the skills and knowledge of criminal defense lawyers and others who affect the administration of law, IBJ promotes just legal systems that will translate into secure and stable societies.
