PROTIBANDHI SHISHU SHIEKKHA O PARICHARJA SAMITY (PROSHIPS) implemented the activity titled “Provide Solar & Emergency Relief for Flood Shelter” to support vulnerable flood-affected communities living in the river basin areas of the Jamuna River and Brahmaputra River. Every year, severe flooding and river erosion create humanitarian crises for local families, especially Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), women, adolescent girls, and children. Periods of emergencies, affected families are forced to take shelter in flood centers and temporary institutions where access to electricity, food, safety, and basic services remains extremely limited.
To respond to these urgent humanitarian needs, PROSHIPS proposed emergency support for 100 flood-affected families residing in 10 flood shelters. The initiative focused on distributing solar-powered lights, dry food packages, and essential emergency relief items to improve safety, mobility, and living conditions during flood emergencies. Solar lights were especially important for women, girls, children, and persons with disabilities, helping them move safely at night inside overcrowded shelters where electricity is unavailable.
Prior to the relief initiative, on 12 May 2026, PROSHIPS organized a community consultation and advocacy meeting on Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction (DiDRR) with participation from Persons with Disabilities, community volunteers, women representatives, and Upazila government officials from Islampur Upazila Jamalpur district.
