One of the major significant gaps discovered by Kudvumisa Foundation in the eastern region of Swaziland was the lack of access to primary health care services for children and the elderly close to their where they live. A majority of the population cannot afford to reach any health care services on their own due to their poor economic state. To get health care services they have to travel by foot or use public transport, and that is if they can afford to get to the nearest clinic which is as far as 12km/7.5miles or more for others. In addition to that, one has to pay a certain fee to access the health care services.
The joy of seeing our CHIPS (Community Health Intervention Program Swaziland) mobile clinic van coming to their dwellings brings hope for health and welfare to the young and old in the area. They know that whatever illness that is not very serious they are suffering from, the CHIPS nurses will help them free of charge. This is part of the outreaches we are able to do using the mobile clinics as we are taking care of the on-going responsibility to provide primary health care services to the children in order to build a healthy generation.
Part of the funds we save through the use of the solar panel system instead of electricity helps us keep our mobile clinics road worthy and properly supplied. Vehicle operation and maintenance costs are a large part of our mobile outreach budget. But with our using mobile clinics we are able to offer a number of services; from treating minor illnesses, HIV/AIDS testing and counselling, anti-retroviral drugs if HIV positive, malaria treatment and medications for non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, gastric ulcers etc.
These people did not have hope for help and no one was there to help them so this is why we make sure to reach out into these communities to bring help and healthcare. Your contributions help us help them.
