The sun is doing a little more of the work at our clinic.
As part of our ongoing journey towards more reliable and sustainable energy, we recently replaced the oldest solar panels at our clinic with newer, more efficient ones. It is an important upgrade to the solar infrastructure we already have, and another step towards reducing our reliance on the national electricity grid. But this project is about more than panels on a roof. It is about what reliable electricity makes possible.
Why Reliable Energy Matters
We serve rural communities in and around Maphiveni, where distance, transport costs and poverty can make accessing healthcare difficult. Our clinic helps bring essential services closer to the people who need them, while our Skills Centre supports economic empowerment and creates opportunities for rural communities.
All of this work depends on reliable power. Our clinic needs electricity to keep essential equipment running and support everyday patient care. Our wider programmes also depend on a facility that can operate consistently. For our nonprofit, investing in solar is therefore an investment in the continuity and sustainability of the services our communities depend on.
The recent panel replacement improves the efficiency of the system we already have, but we are not yet fully powered by solar. There is still more work to do.
Where We Are Now
Our fundraising goal for this project is $25,000, and we have now raised $11,050.
That is meaningful progress from the $6,006 raised by the close of Q4 2025, and it has already helped us make improvements to our solar infrastructure, including the recent replacement of our oldest panels.
We still need $13,950 to reach our goal and continue strengthening our solar capacity. Every contribution helps us move closer to a facility that can rely more heavily on renewable energy, reduce pressure from electricity costs and build greater resilience for the future. We are grateful to everyone who has contributed so far and helped us get to this point.
There is still a way to go, but we are moving in the right direction.
