Help the Appropriate Technology Collaborative send solar lighting kits to Cameroon. A local affiliate will conduct our popular "Circuits and Solar" course for young student engineers and future entrepreneurs. The education through ATC's workshops will provide the students in Bana with the education + skills to become solar technicians.
Over 1.6 billion people live without access to electricity. Another billion people live with unreliable access to power. The great majority of these people illuminate their homes & businesses with fuel-based kerosene lamps and candles. Both are insufficient lighting, particularly for reading, so children and women trying to increase their education cannot. Also, kerosene fumes cause lung damage and lamps can fall, causing house fires.
We have been asked by Mr. Bertini Monthe, of the Association Savoir et Developpement to help the community convert to solar energy for their needs. Mr. Monthe will be the onsite installer and educator to the community He has asked us to help with funding and providing the solar panels.
Providing 21st century energy efficient Light Emitting Diode (LED) lights to people who currently use 19th century fuel-based lighting will improve the quality of life, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and remove major cause of burns and lung disease for a large portion of people alive today.
