Building Our New Dehydrator Design

By John Barrie | Executive Director

Curcumin - as sold in Guatemala City markets
Curcumin - as sold in Guatemala City markets

We have collected dehydrator design input from student teams in Guatemala, Mexico and the U.S. and we are ready to work with a team of Guatemalan makers to build our dehydrator version 2.0 this summer / fall.

I'm traveling to Guatemala in July to talk with the build team to go over the construction details + how we can incorporate testing into the working model without interfering with how easy it will be to use.

We want to work with the cooperative farm that has the most experience using our V 1.0 model.  They were able to make a surplus of food for their community plus they made dried herbs and herbal tea for sale in regional markets.

Please check the photos of the community and their curcumin (turmeric).  I purchased a bottle of their curcumin and it is exceptional.  I had never tried freshly dried curcumin and it is very different than the stuff you can buy at the store.

It will take some time to get our next model up and running.  When we can verify the design under real world conditions, we will make it available online.

Thank you for your continued support.

-John Barrie
