Summary

Many women in rural areas give birth at night in health centers without proper lighting. This project will provide 50 solar lights to rural birth centers and health posts. With steady light, midwives can see clearly during deliveries and avoid mistakes. It will also reduce risks from using candles, kerosene lamps, or torches. The lights will help save lives during night births by improving visibility and safety.

Challenge

Many health centers in rural areas have no electricity or poor lighting. Deliveries at night are done with weak or unsafe lighting like torches or candles. This puts mothers and babies at risk during labor and emergencies. Midwives struggle to work safely in the dark or delay care until morning. The lack of light during birth increases the chance of harm or death.

Solution

It will provide solar-powered light kits to birth centers with no steady power. Each kit gives strong, safe light without the need for fuel or wires. Midwives will use the lights for delivery, cleaning, and emergency care at night. The solar kits are easy to charge during the day and last many hours. They will help health workers do their job well, even in remote places.

Long-Term Impact

The lights will help reduce birth complications linked to poor lighting. Women and babies will be safer and get better care at all hours. Health workers will feel more confident working through the night. This can increase trust in local health posts and bring more women to deliver there. Over time, it may lower maternal and newborn deaths in the areas served.
