Water is essential to life. Water Compass will drill a new water source and install a solar-powered pumping system to provide clean water to two communities in Uganda. Approximately 1000 people will benefit from clean water, powered by clean energy!
Water Compass works in water-stressed areas of Uganda where as little as 38% of the population have access to clean water. Additionally, Water Compass assessed over 1,750 existing water sources in central Uganda and found 55% to be non-functional and most had been broken for over one year. The combination of limited and broken water supply infrastructure means hundreds of thousands of people live without access to clean water every single day.
Water Compass will drill a new water source and install a solar-powered pumping system to bring clean water to two communities in central Uganda known as Mbirizi B and Mbirizi C. Using a solar-powered pump, as opposed to a more commonly used handpump, means water can be piped to communities and greatly reduce the distance and time it takes people to collect water. Lastly, Water Compass manages the water system to ensure it functions 24/7!
The long term impact of having reliable access to clean water is extraordinary! Not only is health greatly improved, but it also supports the development of economic activity and helps to keep children in school, instead of spending long hours collecting water from distant and unsafe sources. A reliable source of clean water is truly a game changer for communities!
