Summary

The Solidarity Project (TSP) is a non-profit organization that implements community-driven development projects in Honduras. Aligned with this mission, TSP will support up to 6 projects identified by community members as creating positive social change in their communities by hosting three community dinners in which community leaders present their development ideas. Attendees will then vote for the leading idea, and TSP will provide extra capital, partnership, and skills training to the winners.

Challenge

Community leaders in Honduras have the knowledge and vision to develop solutions for local problems, but often lack the partnership, capital, and skills make their ideas a reality. Research indicates that with the provision of information, skills, and financial support, community leaders can effectively organize and address local problems. The Solidarity Project is keen to find new ways of identifying promising leaders with big and small ideas about how to improve their communities.

Solution

Our project will launch in 3 towns in the greater Talanga region of Honduras in 2018. Following the "Detroit SOUP" model, we will support up to 6 projects identified by local community members. We will host 3 community dinners in 3 different towns. Dinner attendees will be invited to give short presentations of their development ideas. Fellow dinner-goers will vote for the two leading ideas. We will provide start-up capital, partnership, and skills training to implement those ideas.

Long-Term Impact

The project will impact at least 120 direct event participants with the potential to impact 300-600 people through up to six start-up projects. The project will help The Solidarity Project identify new leaders for long-term partnership and investment in community-based development.
