21 000 schoolchildren displaced from Artsakh and located in emergency shelters, temporary housing facilities, rented or relatives' places in Armenia, face a wide range of challenges. The forced displacement, insecure transportation, instability of current living arrangements, absence of minimal living standards, exclusion and stigmatization, dialect and cultural barriers make it difficult to gain access to routine educational activities. We have elaborated an Education Emergency Response Plan.
21 000 children from Artakh experienced forced displacement after 9 months of living under Azerbaijani blockade. During these months they were going through nightmares of malnourishment, power and gas supply cuts, absence of transportation in many communities, constant fear of war, 0 opportunities for education, self development, etc.. After more than 20 hours of humiliating deportation and settling down in different parts of Armenia, they currently need support to be engaged in schools.
Education Emergency Response Plan includes: - support actions in integrating uprooted schoolchildren into the education institutions where they live in terms of providing them with stationery, hygiene products, winter clothing, and similar support items, - creating high-quality non formal learning opportunities suited to the different needs of children who have been forcefully displaced.
The project is aimed at involving the children from Artaskh in formal educational institutions and filling the gap of formal education and ensuring smooth integration with their peers via non-formal education activities, such as key competence courses, film screenings and discussions, interactive storytelling and fairy tale sessions, performances, art and nature therapy opportunities. Thus, they will not be deprived of their basic right to education and become fully engaged in the society.
