This project provides emergency humanitarian support to internally displaced people in Burkina Faso, focusing on women and children. It delivers essential assistance such as food, clean water and healthcare, while offering psychosocial support to displaced women and girls, including survivors of gender-based violence. The project also strengthens community actors and documents violence to improve protection and advocacy for women and girls.
In Burkina Faso, more than 2 million people have fled their homes due to insecurity and climate crises. Women and girls, who are particularly vulnerable, suffer gender-based violence, lack access to healthcare, food, and water, and live in constant insecurity. An urgent response is essential, not only to save lives, but also to stabilize and improve the living conditions of the most affected populations.
The project provides emergency and holistic humanitarian aid to displaced women and girls in the Boucle du Mouhoun and eastern regions of Burkina Faso. It includes vital assistance (water, food, and healthcare), psychosocial support for survivors of gender-based violence, and documentation of violence. It also builds the capacity of community actors to improve prevention and care.
Beyond the immediate emergency, the project lays the foundations for sustainable community resilience: trained and equipped local actors, empowered and protected women and girls, and the capitalization of best practices that will inform protection policies at the national and international levels.
