Family Island Clinics
Many of the family islands in The Bahamas have hundreds of stray dogs and cats. These islands don’t have access to vets regularly and since the pandemic, with the inability to hold spay/neuter clinics, the number has grown significantly. Recently we have really tried to help with this problem and last year we packed up our trucks, crates, supplies and volunteers on multiple occasions for:
6 Family Island MASH Clinics
5 in Eleuthera (including Governors Harbour, Rock Sound and Deep Creek)
1 on Long Island
Over 7,00 of our spay/neuters were carried out during these weekend clinics. Family Island clinics are HARD WORK - they take a lot of pre planning and organization, on the ball co-ordination, extremely long hours – demanding both physically and emotional, sadly we often see cases of abuse and neglect. Luckily we have the most amazing group of dedicated, compassionate and determined volunteers who pull together and make this happen time after time.
We’re also proud that when we set up in these remote locations, we meet lovely people who genuinely care for their animals and have been very grateful for what we are doing. Hopefully our presence on the islands will also help with educating the population on animal welfare and responsible pet ownership.
Upcoming Clinics
Even though we completed many sterilizations, our work is very much still needed on the islands with hundreds more animals to be fixed. Our 2022 plans include taking Baark! on the road once again, heading to Rock Sound on February 25 for another Eleuthera clinic. We will then be assisting with a clinic on Andros March 17-20th - which will be dedicated to our much loved supporter and advocate Rick Goolander, who sadly passed away recently.
