Spay/Neuter Update:
We had an amazing, record-breaking 2022 - assisting with 5,110 spay and neuters. It’s hard to quantify exactly how many lives we have saved from being brought into a life of suffering on the streets, it is in the hundreds of thousands! For 2023 we have been busy with many family island clinics as well as our mobile 'Cleo' completing over 1,350 fixes . We're on a mission to to exceed our sterilization numbers from 2022 and save as many dogs' and cats' lives as possible and improving their environments.
Mobile Clinic Spay and Neuters for 2023
January - 195
February - 253
March – 248
April - 217
During 2023 we have traveled to 3 Family Island Locations
South Andros - 88 spay and neuters
Mangrove Cay Andros - 115 spay and neuters
Governor's Harbour Eleuthera - 121 spay and neuters
Local Vets
We have also funded hundreds more surgeries using local vets on the island helping families who cannot afford to spay/neuter their pets. We also sometimes help with transport to and from the vet clinics.
Education Update:
As you know education is a vital part of our program and we mostly focus on teaching children about responsible pet ownership and the importance of spay and neutering. The mobile clinic is allowing us to do continuous education. Each day our community outreach coordinator and volunteers are in the community talking to pet owners and also children. Our coloring books are a big success and well received.
This past February was a great month of learning for OUR team! We had two visiting vet duos come in to work in 'Cleo', which was a wonderful experience for our team and volunteers getting to meet other vets and vet techs who are very experienced and part of the spay and neuter crusade in different parts of America.
In early February we had Dr. Dorothy York and RVT (Registered Veterinary Technician) Arlene Martinez from California who both work full time doing spaying and neutering in a mobile clinic. This was funded by a wonderful donor named Nancy (she wrote a really lovely email to Ron and Christie and I have attached it for you to read). At the end of February, we had Dr. Melanie deHaan and RVT Angela Bockover from Ohio visit and we’ll be partnering with them for future training projects. We’re very grateful and excited about the wealth of knowledge and information both teams have given Baark! We are always committed to growing and learning to improve our efficiencies, enabling us to help more dogs and cats each year.
End of This Project:
We wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your generosity in donating and helping us to fund all of our life changing work thus far.
If you didn’t already know, our mobile clinic is named ‘Cleo’ (short for Cleopawtra) arrived in March last year and it has made a huge difference, not only to our spay/neuter numbers but our presence in the community. Thanks to her arrival we can complete a lot more surgeries than previously, and have started a new fundraising project on GlobalGiving : Spay and Neuter 10,000 Dogs & Cats In The Bahamas, and you can find to link that here: https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/spayneuterbahamas/
We really hope that you will continue to support us and helping the animals of The Bahamas.
