Spay/Neuter Update
Thanks to all of your generous donations we’re thrilled to tell you that Baark! exceeded our goal and completed an amazing 1,128 spays/neuters in 2014!
With a combination of TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) and assisting low income families we were able to sterilize 755 dogs and 373 cats. This will literally save THOUSANDS of unwanted puppies and kittens being born homeless or ending up in already crowded shelters. Its our pleasure to report back to you that every dollar of your hard earned money that you donate to us goes towards helping us continue these successful programs in the Bahamas.
A Special Story
After being spotted by a concerned animal lover, our trappers went to catch a cat hanging around a sports bar. She was picked up for a routine spay and was due to be returned the next day. However this lovely girl was particularly friendly and super sweet, everyone who came into contact with her thought she was something special. So instead of letting her straight back to the area our volunteer fostered her and tried to find her a home. As luck would have it there was a family saw her picture and thought she woul make the perfect sister for their year old cat. After literally a few hours together Angelica told us "She's perfect. She loves the other cat and she's walking around like she's been here forever". What a happy ending for this kitty, now named 'Diamond' !
Education
Education is a very important side of our work. We arrange interactive summer camps and our volunteers go into local schools and teach children about being safe around dogs, being kind to animals and how to care for their pets . We also specifically teach about the importance of spay/neuter and how this has such a long lasting impact. We hope they then take this knowledge back to their families and grow up to become responsible pet owners themselves. Recently volunteer Shelley and her dog Mambo went into a local primary school, the kids had a great time learning and Mambo loved all the attention !
