May 2025 - Quarterly Report From Baark!

By Sarah Kennedy | Head of Development

Spay/Neuter Update
So far this year, we have completed 1,451 spay and neuter surgeries, including 885 dogs and 567 cats. Of these, 766 were performed at our mobile clinic, Cleo, located at Carmichael Road. These vital procedures continue to play a crucial role in reducing the stray animal population and improving the welfare of dogs and cats throughout The Bahamas.

Family Island MASH Clinic Update
In March, we took our entire team—mobile clinic, vehicles, staff, and volunteers—to the island of Exuma, where we conducted two back-to-back clinics: Exuma 1 in Steventon and Exuma 2 in Georgetown. Together, these clinics resulted in 301 sterilizations. Our team worked incredibly hard to make this a success.
Earlier in February, we held a smaller, cat-focused clinic in Harbour Island, where we spayed and neutered 75 cats and 41 dogs. These Family Island clinics are essential in reaching remote communities with limited access to veterinary care.

Education Update
Our education program continues to be warmly received, and we are grateful for the opportunity to visit schools. . Depending on their age group, students learn to identify the basic needs of pets, demonstrate gentle and safe behavior around animals, understand that animals have feelings too, practice responsible pet ownership, recognize why too many animals can be a problem, and appreciate the importance of spaying/neutering and adopting.

The long-term goal of Baark!’s education program is to empower the next generation to become compassionate, responsible pet owners and to foster a cultural shift toward empathy and animal welfare across Bahamian communities. By instilling these values early, we hope to build stronger, more humane societies, reduce stray populations, and raise a generation that chooses kindness, responsibility, and respect for all living beings.

Operation Kindness
While our primary focus remains spay and neuter, we recognize there are animals we simply cannot leave behind. Baark! has launched Operation Kindness, a campaign providing targeted assistance to dogs and cats in urgent or exceptional circumstances. Many of these animals arrive in distressing conditions or suffering from health issues. We offer medical care, socialization, and extra TLC to help them recover.

With support from our fostering network, these special cases get a chance at a better life. We have created a dedicated page on our website showcasing 10 of the animals currently in foster care. We’re now asking for support to help raise funds to cover their treatment and care costs on a monthly bases.

Thank you for your continued generosity and commitment to improving the lives of animals and communities across the islands. We deeply appreciate your donations to date and hope you’ll continue supporting our efforts to make The Bahamas a safer, more humane place for animals and a kinder, more compassionate community for all.
