Spay/Neuter Update
2026 continues to be a busy and impactful year for Baark!. From January through August, we have completed 2,565 spay and neuter surgeries across The Bahamas, helping prevent thousands of unwanted puppies and kittens from being born into lives where there simply are not enough homes.
Our mobile clinic, Cleo, has been at the heart of this work. Between January and August, the team completed 1,804 surgeries through the mobile clinic alone – 748 dogs and 1,056 cats.
Alongside our regular Nassau programme, we continue to take spay and neuter services to communities where veterinary care is limited.
In May, our team travelled to Coco Cay for a dedicated cat MASH clinic, where an incredible 177 cats were spayed or neutered. These focused clinics are particularly important in areas with large free-roaming cat populations, where preventing new litters can make a significant difference in a relatively short period of time.
In June, we travelled to Deep Creek, Eleuthera, completing a further 102 spay and neuter surgeries during a three-day clinic.
Every one of these surgeries represents much more than a number. Preventing unwanted litters is the most effective and humane way to reduce the number of homeless animals, ease pressure on shelters and rescuers, and prevent suffering before it begins.
Celebrating 40,000 Spay & Neuter Surgeries
July brought an especially exciting milestone for Baark! as we officially reached 40,000 spay and neuter surgeries since our work began in 2009.
What started as a small group of volunteers determined to tackle the overwhelming number of unwanted dogs and cats in The Bahamas has grown into a programme that has reached communities across multiple islands.
Reaching 40,000 surgeries is a huge achievement, but it also demonstrates the scale of the need that still exists. Each surgery prevents future generations of unwanted animals, meaning the true impact extends far beyond the 40,000 dogs and cats we have directly helped.
We could never have reached this milestone without the donors, volunteers, veterinary teams and community members who have supported Baark! along the way.
Mobile Clinic Update
After a very busy first eight months of the year, our mobile clinic programme is taking a short summer break. Our team is using this time to review the programme and make some changes to ensure we can continue providing spay and neuter services where they are needed most.
A new clinic calendar will be released in the fall. In the meantime, Baark! continues to facilitate spay and neuter surgeries through our veterinary partners, ensuring this important work continues while Cleo is off the road.
Education & Community Outreach
Our humane education programme has been a little quieter during the summer months while schools are closed, but we are excited to resume our regular programme when students return in September.
Most recently, in August, our educator Amy and her four-legged assistant Bagheera visited the Refresher For Kids Developmental Centre, reaching 25 students through an interactive session covering responsible pet ownership, basic animal care, dog safety and the importance of spaying and neutering.
This fall, we will also be increasing our community outreach throughout Nassau. Our team will be spending more time directly within communities, speaking with residents about spay and neuter, responsible pet ownership and the services available through Baark!, while helping identify dogs and cats in need of assistance.
By taking our message beyond the clinic and into schools and communities, we hope to reach more people, remove barriers to accessing spay and neuter services and continue building long-term change for animals across The Bahamas.
Thank You for Making This Possible
Reaching 40,000 spay and neuter surgeries is a milestone that belongs to everyone who has supported Baark! over the years.
Every donation helps us put another animal on the surgery table, reach another community and prevent countless unwanted puppies and kittens from being born into uncertain futures.
With 2,565 animals already spayed or neutered in 2026, there is still much more work ahead. Thank you for continuing to stand alongside us and for making humane, sustainable change possible for dogs and cats across The Bahamas.
