2026 has already been a strong year for Baark !. So far, we have completed over 1,000 spay and neuter surgeries, with more than 700 performed through our mobile clinic, Cleo, based on Carmichael Road in Nassau.
In February, we joined organizations around the world in recognizing Spay/Neuter Awareness Month, culminating in World Spay Day on February 24th. To mark the occasion, Baark ! held clinics across multiple islands, alongside additional outreach to reach communities with limited access to veterinary care.
Across these efforts:
- Nassau clinics (mobile and veterinary partnerships): 37 surgeries
- Marsh Harbour, Abaco: 25 surgeries
- Freeport, Grand Bahama: 19 surgeries
- Nichols Town, Andros: 48 dogs spayed or neutered
- Guana Cay: 17 animals sterilized (16 cats, 1 dog), along with vaccinations for owned animals
Beyond these focused clinics, our work continues daily through both our mobile operations and field response. Spaying and neutering remains the most effective and humane way to reduce the number of homeless animals and prevent suffering before it begins. Each surgery helps limit unwanted litters and supports healthier communities.
We have also continued to assist in situations where animals are in urgent need of care, including working with households with large numbers of cats, where animals are humanely trapped, sterilized, treated, and returned.
Our partnerships are an important part of creating sustainable solutions. At Sandals Resorts International property in Nassau, approximately 10 resident cats and kittens have now been spayed or neutered. With feeding stations in place, the cats remain healthy and cared for while also contributing to natural rodent control. These cats have also become a positive presence for guests. We hope to build on this model with additional hotels in the future.
Education Update
Baark !’s humane education programme continues to expand in 2026, reaching hundreds of students across multiple islands.
So far this year, our team has delivered sessions at:
- Claridge Primary School – 83 students
- Judith P. Thompson School – 46 students
- Bimini Primary School – 120 students
- Adelaide Primary School – 79 students
Through interactive, engaging sessions led by our educator Amy, alongside Bagheera, students learn about compassion, responsible pet ownership, the importance of spay and neuter, and how animal welfare supports healthier communities.
Each session includes take-home materials and classroom resources, along with snacks and water to help students stay engaged.
These sessions are volunteer-led and continue to play an important role in shaping a more compassionate and informed next generation.
We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our donors, whose support makes all of this work possible. Your contributions allow Baark ! to continue expanding access to spay and neuter services, deliver humane education, and respond to animals in need across The Bahamas. Because of you, we are able to create lasting, sustainable change—improving the lives of countless dogs and cats while supporting the communities who care for them. Thank you for being such an essential part of this mission.
