Innocence lost and found

Hello Everyone.

Namaste to you and your family.

My goodness me, summer is coming and temperatures are on the rise daily, already reaching 100F

Here at Rescue Junction we have been as busy as always.

And I am excited to tell you of our new initiative "Operation Innocence" we are running with the police and other law enforcement agencies in rescuing underage girls from commercial sex abuse. Regular readers of our updates will know we have always done this, but now we have an organised programme . I am happy to tell you all that just a week before acting on information received several underage girls were rescued from a guest house in Bodhgaya where they were being used for sex and several arrests were made. They are now receiving counselling under the programme so many of you have supported .

As one girl said,

"I began to think I had been totally abandoned , who and from where was going to help me?, to bring me out of hell. Then suddenly a golden window opened and I was free.

Every night I prayed for such a release. It has come and I am here. For the first time for as long as I can remember I feel safe"

What happened to my donated dollars?

Hello Everyone!

Well here in India the festivities of Diwali are now over, the weather is pleasantly cool and we are looking to shortly start our annual appeal for warm winter clothing and blankets for street children, so look out for that!

As regular supporters will know Rescue Junction is remarkable for accepting all children in need both boys and girls. I believe it is particularly important because if you look at this project the number of girls homeless or living on the street who diappear once they reach puberty is extremely disturbing. Our Work at Rescue Junction and this project is designed to stop this from happening in our area .

So are we having success?

What happened to the dollars you donated?

I can tell you from our survey methodology and our important work with the railway and state police plus our work with the district child protection committee, (of which we are a member) the whole landscape for street, trafficked and exploited children has changed dramatically for the better.

So far as this initiative is concerned here is a short letter to you from Diva

Namaste everyone!

My name is Diva and I am 13 or 14 years of age.

I am not really sure.

I am so happy to be here at Rescue Junction. My step father used to beat me and I called Childline 1098 and spoke to a kind lady who asked me to stay where I was and someone will come with an ID card with her photo on it to me within 10 mins. I was desperate and was beaten once too often and I had run away. At Rescue Junction I found many "aunties " and even some uncles who for the first time in my life treated me with respect and gentle kindness.

I am studying and taking vocational training for the future making soft toys, and I feel so happy I am getting support from people who care about me.

Thank you for helping me.

I feel safe.
