Help children with bifida spine in Medellin

Dear friend,

I hope both you and your family and friends are healthy and well.

In this report, we want to tell you about the progress of Samuel, one of the children who benefited from the wonderful donation you made to the spina bifida project. Samuel is 3 years old; he lives with his parents and siblings in Medellín, Colombia. Currently, he is going to kindergarten and loves to play with educational games and toy cars.

Samuel was diagnosed with spina bifida since birth. He is also a Venezuelan refugee in Colombia, so he cannot use Government healthcare now. Having spina bifida leads to physical deformity, stomach problems, intellectual disability, and paralysis of half of his body. Physical immobility is frustrating and overwhelming for Samuel. It’s hard to be able to play, to be with other children, to engage in the daily activities of the nursery.

Thanks to your generosity, Samuel is in one of Patronato’s programs in which we support Samuel with comprehensive rehabilitation that covers home care, early stimulation, motor skills, the arts, pedagogical initiation, music, and hydrotherapy. In addition to this, we put his parents in contact with several foundations that practice legal pro bono work, so that Samuel can solve his legal situation in Colombia and be able to receive Government healthcare.

Thanks to your kindness and compassion, his quality of life has improved a lot, his motor skills are better and more secure, and he is more attentive when giving directions. Although he still has a long way to go in terms of his mobility, all his daily activities are more bearable, he can perform them more easily, with more ease. Samuel is on the path to a successful development and a productive life. And it is largely thanks to you.

Espero que tanto tu como tu familia y amigos estén sanos y bien.

En este reporte, te queremos contar los avances de Samuel, uno de los niños beneficiados por la gran donación que hiciste al proyecto de espina bífida. Samuel tiene 3 años, vive con sus padres y hermanos en Medellín, Colombia. En este momento va a la guardería y le encanta jugar con juegos didácticos y autos de juguete.

Samuel fue diagnosticado con espina bífida desde la gestación, además de ser refugiado venezolano, por lo que en el momento no cuenta con salud estatal. El tener espina bífida conlleva deformidad física, problemas estomacales, discapacidad intelectual y parálisis de la mitad del cuerpo. La inmovilidad física es frustrante y abrumadora para Samuel, para poder jugar, para estar con otros niños, para hacer las actividades diarias de la guardería.

Gracias en muy buena parte a tu generosidad, Samuel está en uno de nuestros programas en el cual apoyamos a Samuel con rehabilitación integral que cubre atención en casa, estimulación temprana, habilidades motrices, artes plásticas, iniciación pedagógica, música e hidroterapia. Además de esto, El patronato les ha dado a sus papás contactos con otras fundaciones que apoyan en temas legales, para que Samuel solucione su situación legal en Colombia y pueda recibir la salud estatal y sea atendido allí.

Gracias a tu bondad y compasión su calidad de vida ha mejorado muchísimo, su motricidad es mejor y más segura, se desplaza con más facilidad que antes y es más atento al momento de darle indicaciones. Aunque todavía falta fortalecer su movilidad, todas sus actividades diarias son más llevaderas, las puede realizar con más facilidad, con más tranquilidad, mejor. Samuel va en camino de un desarrollo exitoso y de una vida productiva. Y en buena parte gracias a ti.
