Diabetes is a major public health concern in Kenya with dire implications in terms of premature death & healthcare needs pushing families deeper into poverty. The incidence of type 1 diabetes is on the rise & many children's lives are at risk due to late diagnosis. Prevalence of pre-diabetes & type 2 diabetes is increasing at an alarming rate in kids as a result of modifiable risk factors such as obesity. We aim to provide the best clinical & educational interventions to the beneficiaries.
In Kenya, diabetic children cover long distances to access treatment while struggling with poverty & stigma forcing households to choose between basic needs & health care. Families spend 60% of their income on diabetes supplies & services worsening their financial status leading to children dropping out of school to engage in child labor. Uncontrolled & undiagnosed diabetes leads to serious complications eg. kidney failure, blindness, stroke, hypertension, nerve damage, amputation & gum disease.
Our strategies manage & support diabetic children by preventing & reversing the impact of diabetes & creating a supportive environment. We shall purchase medication & equipment, facilitate early diagnosis & self-care education, increase awareness of type 1 & type 2 diabetes. Link diabetic kids to experts through a mobile app developed by FBK Italy. Leverage on the CATCH HEALTH program to enhance physical activity & healthy eating. We request well-wishers to sponsor & save a diabetic child's life
Improve the health outcomes for 5000 children with diabetes, significantly reducing the medical financial burden in their households; empowering them in diabetes management, thus increasing self-awareness allowing better diagnosis, care treatment & decreasing the risk of acute preventable conditions. Reach out to 10,000 children with prediabetes by facilitating early diagnosis. Ensure the beneficiaries eat healthy diets & participate in 60 mins of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity daily.
