Manuel is Diagnosed with Hydrocephalus, Epilepsy, Cerebral Paralysis and severe malnutrition. Pediasure is the only thing he can eat. He needs 4 cases a month. His mom gives him chicken broth with blended vegetables but its not enough to sustain him. The Hurricanes that devastated Honduras have impacted greatly the local economy. His dad is blind from one eye and can see 40% with his other eye. His dad collects can to take to the recycling center to provide for his family but its not enough.
Manuel's story is one of many of the children in Honduras. Antonia, his mother, did not receive any care from a doctor throughout her pregnancy. She couldn't afford vitamins or prenatal checkups. Manuel was born with Hydrocephalus at his home in Las Vegas Santa Barbara. Antonia took him for a check up at 14 days and the doctor said that Manuel needed surgery. Sadly, something went wrong during the surgery and as a result of the surgery Manuel developed the other problems he now lives with.
His mother is Antonia (54 years old), and she is the main caretaker for him. Antonia has dedicated her life to taking care of Manuel since his birth. His father sorts through the garbage at the dump looking for cans and bottles to recycle and earn some money to provide for his family. He is blind in one eye and can only see 40% in the other eye. This family has always suffered through poverty but the hurricanes have devastated the economy. Manuel needs pediasure in order to survive.
