There are so many challenges that come with living with a disability and social isolation is one of them. Video games are unique in that we ALL use them to escape our days, and join our friends, and total strangers in a quest to win. That is where YOU come in. For an average of $350 per person, AbleGamers provides equipment to people living with a disablity and in poverty and "gets them in the game" -- of life!
Living with a disability can create barriers to building social connections, particularly practical issues such as difficulty accessing mobility aids, like a wheelchair, the need for accessible transport and buildings, and appropriate social care. Shockingly, one in two non-disabled people don't believe they have anything in common with disabled people and a quarter admit they have avoided engaging in conversation with a disabled person.
We give people with disabilities custom gaming setups including modified controllers and special assistive technology, like devices that let you play with your eyes, so they can have fun with their friends and family. We're using the power of video games to bring people together, improving quality of life with recreation and rehabilitation -- utilizing one of the world's largest pastimes.
The human spirit is one of ability, perseverance and courage that no disability can steal away. One of our favorite ways to ignite this passion and jumpstart a happier and healthier lifestyle is through inclusion that only gaming can provide.
