Thanks to your generous support, Develop Africa has been able to build on the success of our two-day Early Childhood Education training held in November 2024 for teachers in Kamawornie, Sierra Leone. The original training—delivered via video call—focused on Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP), nurturing classroom environments, and integrating STEM through hands-on activities, all tailored to young learners in rural settings.
To continue this impactful work, we recently conducted a follow-up session to reinforce the skills and knowledge introduced last fall. This in-person gathering reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting early childhood education in rural communities.
Due to poor network connectivity in Kamawornie village, the session was held in Kamakwie, a nearby town approximately 12 miles away. With limited local infrastructure, our team coordinated transportation for the teachers using motorbikes to ensure everyone could participate.
Led by experienced facilitators Wale, Amie, and their colleagues, the session opened with introductions and a warm discussion about how the teachers have implemented the November training. This interactive exchange offered valuable insight into classroom practices and celebrated several success stories.
One standout achievement was the daily implementation of the morning circle routine, a structured group activity that fosters unity, communication, and early learning. Teachers also discussed how they’ve incorporated developmental insights and play-based learning strategies into their teaching.
Your generosity is laying the groundwork for transformative change in early childhood education. Together, we are equipping educators, empowering communities, and investing in a future where every child in Sierra Leone can thrive from their earliest years.
