This project will allow Lazio Hockey to launch a full-fledged training program for youth with disabilities. A small scale initiative is already taking place, with excellent results in terms of social inclusion. 2 youth were integrated in the first teams and constitute an important element of cohesion and identity to the whole team. Lazio Hockey wants to bring this to the next level, allowing the participation in the program of a minimum of 20 more youth, and ensure scaling in other disciplines
Persons with disabilities often face societal barriers and disability evokes negative perceptions and discrimination. As a result of the stigma associated with disability, persons with disabilities are generally excluded from community life which deprives them of opportunities essential to their social development, health and well-being, and results in isolation and alienation from society, in addition to increased physical challenges due to lack of physical activity.
Sport transcends linguistic, cultural and social barriers and can empower people with disabilities to realize their full potential and advocate for changes in society. Through sport, persons with disabilities acquire vital social skills, develop independence, & become empowered to act as agents of change. LazioHockey is actively engaged in the integration of people with disabilities: 2 youth are already part of teams and 10 are being regularly trained on a voluntary basis with excellent results
This crowdfunding campaign will allow Lazio Hockey to take this initiative to the next level: not only allow other youth with disabilities to be part of a regular training program, but also increase the number of success stories, like the one of Stefano, who is a member of the U21 team, whose success has generated increased awareness at a much wider level. This project is even more relevant in the COVID19 scenario, where disabled people are more isolated than they were before.
