The International Day of Persons with Disabilities and Giving Tuesday was observed at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church Community Hall in Warispura, Faisalabad, marking a day of solidarity, empowerment, and community resilience. Organized by URAAN – A Flight towards Socio-economic Sustainability under AWARD Pakistan, the event aimed to promote inclusive growth and support people with disabilities in the region.
A major highlight of the day was the distribution of 40 assistive devices to persons with disabilities, including 35 wheelchairs, 2 plastic commodes, 2 hearing devices, and 1 folding walker, to enhance independence and enable active participation in daily life and community activities.
Speakers at the event emphasized the importance of supporting persons with disabilities, noting that assistive devices help them become active and contributing members of their families and communities. The event also highlighted the spirit of Giving Tuesday, encouraging participants to contribute time, financial support, and mutual assistance to strengthen community solidarity and inclusivity.
Impact
The initiative directly improved the mobility, independence, and confidence of 40 persons with disabilities, allowing them to engage more actively in household and community life. Beneficiaries reported a greater sense of dignity and inclusion, while families expressed relief and gratitude for the support provided. The event also raised awareness among the wider community about the challenges faced by persons with disabilities and the importance of inclusive development.
