Summary

The program INEVI (Educational Inclusion with a Comprehensive Intervention) was created to provide an opportunity to children and adolescents within the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to receive educational and therapeutic intervention. To give them tools to have a successful educational outcome in regular schools and keep them out of risky situations if their parents were to be absent from their lives.

Challenge

Regular schools lack inclusion programs and teacher training for children within the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). There is also a lack of information about learning challenges presented by ASD. With the high increase of an affected population, the predictions for 2015 were 1 out of 2 children will be diagnosed with some kind of neurological disorder/autism, inclusion programs for these children are more important than ever.

Solution

An early and comprehensive intervention increases a child's potential for a positive outcome. We have been able to mainstream children with ASD in regular schools with great success.

Long-Term Impact

The INEVI project will benefit children with different disorders by helping them become self-sufficient with occupational and daily skills intervention, and prepare them for their independence with pre-employment skills. It will also empower their families through our workshops, and help them understand the disorder to raise awareness about autism in the community. But most importantly, it will help include children with ASD in regular schools to continue their education
