Scholarship Support for Flood-Affected Children

Monthly Scholarship Support for Flood-Affected Children

2. Background

Due to recent flood situations, many families have been severely affected, resulting in financial hardship. Children from these families are at risk of discontinuing their education due to lack of basic financial support.

To address this issue, this project has been initiated to provide consistent monthly assistance to ensure continuity in education and basic needs.

3. Project Objective

To support children from flood-affected families with a monthly financial contribution
To reduce the risk of school dropouts
To improve access to education and essential needs

4. Project Details

Number of Students: 30
Monthly Scholarship per Student: LKR 3,000
Total Monthly Contribution: LKR 90,000
Project Duration: Until May 2027

5. Total Project Cost

Monthly Cost: LKR 90,000
Annual Cost: LKR 1,080,000

Example Total (if 12 months): LKR 1,080,000

6. Implementation Plan

Identify eligible students from flood-affected families
Verify family background and need
Disburse monthly scholarship directly or through guardians
Maintain records of payments and beneficiaries
Monitor student attendance and progress

7. Expected Outcomes

Continuous education for 30 children
Reduced financial burden on affected families

Flood Relief & Education Support Program

Flood Relief Support & Education Assistance for Affected Families in Sri Lanka

Introduction

Due to severe flooding in several areas of Sri Lanka, many families have lost their homes, belongings, and access to basic necessities. In response to this situation, we initiated a flood relief project to support affected communities with essential supplies and educational assistance.

Problem Statement

Flood-affected families are facing:

Shortage of food and daily essentials
Loss of school materials for children
Financial difficulties in continuing education

Many students are at risk of dropping out of school due to these challenges.

Objectives

Provide dry food packs to affected families
Support students with school supplies
Help children continue their education
Launch a scholarship program for flood-affected students

Project Locations

Karavanella
Hasalaka
Madadumbara

Project Activities1. Dry Food Distribution

From December to present, we have distributed dry food packs to a large number of affected families in the above areas.

2. School Supply Support

In addition to food aid, we have provided school book lists and educational materials to students who were impacted by the floods.

3. Scholarship Program (Ongoing)

We have recently launched a one-year scholarship program aimed at supporting students affected by the floods.

Our goal is to support 100 students through this program.
