Thank you for your support of this project. I'm writing to share a story from an ActionAid program partner in Gaza.
Speaking three years into the war, a project coordinator with a partner organization of ActionAid Palestine in Gaza describes a place she calls unliveable. Her focus is on what the crisis means for women and girls. Living without safety, they face increased risks of gender-based violence, harassment and exploitation. Pregnant women cannot reach safe healthcare and childcare. Women and girls struggle to find water, toilets and menstrual hygiene supplies, and walk long distances to collect water. Pregnant and breastfeeding women face heightened risks from hunger and malnutrition. Displacement has left women without privacy, dignity or safe spaces, and is taking a severe toll on their mental wellbeing.
Alongside this, she describes the collapse of infrastructure, extreme water and sanitation insecurity, a health system in crisis, disease outbreaks, overcrowded and unsafe camps, and schools that have been destroyed or turned into shelters, leaving children without formal education. She warns that winter will make all of it more dangerous. Her central argument is that the crisis has continued because of impunity, global silence and the failure of governments to act, and her message is that people should keep demanding justice for Palestinians, keep refusing genocide, and press their own governments and parliaments to act.
Our work is far from over. Your generosity has been integral to our efforts during this unfathomable time. Please continue to support ActionAid's efforts in Gaza and please share this project with anyone who might be interested.
Thank you.
