Successful kick-off of F4L Academy

By Olga Babina | Co-Founder

3rd place: Best Youth Development Programme
3rd place: Best Youth Development Programme

Dear friends and supporters,

The last few months were full of good news! Please spare a few minutes to learn about our progress.

Last time, we mentioned that one of our Football for Life (F4L) coaches – Reuben Ranille – was selected for the Michael Johnson Young Leaders 2017 programme which took place in Dallas, USA, in June. Please read the full report on his life-changing trip here. Watch out: a super motivational read is ahead! A special mention to Coaches Across Continents (CAC) for working very hard to make this happen!

Speaking of CAC, on August 21-25 they hosted yet another seminar for our F4L coaches. Read the feedback of the seminar participants here. Kudos to CAC coaches Charlie and Prateek for a wonderful seminar. We can’t be grateful enough to CAC for sticking around, believing in us and helping us grow.

F4L was again invited to the annual Leyte Interschool Invitational Sports League which ran from August-September 2017. Three F4L teams were registered to participate, one each under the U12 Mixed, U15 Boys, and U15 Girls categories. Our teams competed in the football division for two months, playing seven Saturdays, with one or two games played each weekend until the Championship. F4L joined specifically to give players the opportunity to play with children from private schools, as opposed to the usual community teams they play with. As expected of their hard work, persistence, and dedication to their training, all teams of F4L proudly made it to the Finals last 30 September 2017, with the U12 Mixed Team, U15 Boys, and U15 Girls earning 2nd Place, 3rd Place, and Champions, respectively. Check out some photos here.

As we reported earlier, last May 2017, FundLife signed a partnership with the Department of Education Region VIII, which allowed the organization to introduce and deliver its F4L Academy curriculum to public schools in Leyte. Three schools from Tanauan, Palo, and San Joaquin, Leyte were selected as pilot schools, and they started testing the programme at the beginning of this academic school year. Four months into it, F4LA has successfully delivered a total of 70 sessions, directly engaging close to 200 children. As a result of the F4LA pilot, teachers have already expressed how the programme has been positively affecting the students’ behaviour, both in and outside of class. They have commented on how it has also fostered friendship and a sense of community, as the programme is inclusive of children from across ages, classes, and genders. Students who are engaged in the programme have also shown an increase in attendance in their classes. What a start! Get a better glimpse of F4LA here.

Finally, a sweet news which came in just a few days ago: our F4L Academy programme has just been awarded BRONZE by SPIA ASIA in the category “Best Youth Development Programme of the Year”. What a way to conclude the 3rd quarter!
