Playing for Dignity - November 2019 update!
Girls playing in the GCL Tacloban
That's almost a wrap for November - probably our busiest month of the year with action-packed activities for coaches, players, teachers and the team!
We kicked-off with welcoming 10 new work-immersion students to FundLife HQ, who spent 2 weeks assisting staff with current priorities as well as conducting some primary research amongst their peers related to the SDGs. The immersion is part of our ongoing engagement with Leyte National High School, preparing near graduates for the workplace and offering them a glimpse of how NGOs work.
November 8th marked the 6th anniversary of Typhoon Haiyan. It was a day for remembering. We commemorated the day through the staging of the Haiyan Cup, which saw 112 children take part in a specially organised event. One of the players who took part was Sandara, a long-standing FFLA and GCL player. Check out her video below where she shares her thoughts on how football helped after the typhoon and what it was like to meet Japan International, Shinji Kagawa.
The Girls Community League continues to gain momentum and November saw the introduction of GCL Ambassadors and new GCL partners joining the 'Get the Chain, Let Her Play' movement to campaign for equitable access to play, education and opportunity for all girls.
Fittingly, November 20th marked Universal Children's Day with special activities across our partner schools, including some great photo taking by RTR players.
As we close November and thoughts turn toward festive holidays, we are not slowing done! We're finishing the year strongly with several more exciting fixtures coming up, including the 2nd Capitol Cup, the 8th Annual Sama-Sama Games as well as FFLA school graduation ceremonies!
Bring on December,
FL Team!
