Kindergarten Nido D'Ape becomes a Stella Mission

Nido d’Ape Kindergarten in Rome Grows into a Stella Mission!

In 2008, Mission Bambini and Cooperative Accoglienza embarked on a journey together with a common dream: to create a safe, nurturing place for young children in Rome’s underserved neighborhoods. Back then, the Nido d’Ape center was a humble daycare for children aged 0-3, focused on the simple yet crucial mission of providing care and attention to the youngest in the community. But the need went deeper—families in the area were yearning for support, both for their children and themselves. So, with Mission Bambini’s commitment, the center began to grow, adding new activities, expanding its reach, and soon, it wasn’t just for the little ones; mothers were welcomed in too, forming bonds and building a support system within the daycare walls.

By 2014, Nido d’Ape had outgrown its initial location and, with the generous help of the Parish of San Fulgenzio, moved into a new home. Volunteers from the parish joined hands with the Cooperative L’Accoglienza Onlus to bring this place to life. Mission Bambini covered a significant portion of the renovation and essential materials, ensuring that Nido d’Ape could offer an environment where children and families felt truly at home. And it worked—an environment of connection and warmth took root. Children began to thrive, developing meaningful relationships with adults and peers. Parents also felt the impact through organized support services designed to help them navigate the challenges of parenting.

Between 2014 and 2023, the project continued with invaluable support from our donors. This community helped shape Nido d’Ape into a cornerstone for local families, a place for growth, learning, and community support. Then, in 2021, a new chapter began when the Cooperative L’Accoglienza partnered with the Parish of Gesù Divin Maestro, making it possible to relocate Nido d’Ape to a larger private school that houses both a nursery and kindergarten.

Stella Mission Today:

Located in Monte Mario/Pineta Sacchetti, bordering the historic Primavalle area of Rome, Stella Mission now serves as a beacon for families. Here, in a community marked by economic and social challenges, Nido d’Ape with Gesù Divin Maestro Kindergarten open their doors to children and families most in need. The project’s main objective is to provide vulnerable families with a support system that helps them integrate and find stability. For children aged 1-6, it offers their first encounters with socialization and schooling in a nurturing environment that values cultural and social diversity. It’s a place where relationships blossom, and the sense of community grows stronger every day.

At the heart of Stella Mission is an inclusive approach: beyond the children, we emphasize the well-being of their parents. Through parenting support activities, including mutual aid groups and training sessions, parents find a place of understanding and empowerment. The educational team is also continuously trained, ensuring they can meet the needs of this diverse and vibrant community.

Capacity and Reach:

- Nursery: 35 children

- Kindergarten: 56 children

Today, Stella Mission serves around 85 enrolled children, including 7 from vulnerable families who receive additional support thanks to Mission Bambini.

With the support of the Scintilla project, another initiative by Mission Bambini, we organize a range of extracurricular and parenting support activities, providing benefits to all children and families within the school.

This journey from a small daycare to a full-fledged Stella Mission has been made possible by people like you. As we look ahead, your support will enable us to continue providing a safe, enriching environment for children and families. Every contribution strengthens our mission and brings us closer to a community where every family feels supported and every child has a place to grow. Join Us in Making a Difference!

Thank you for considering becoming a part of Stella Mission’s story.
