A Year of Growth, Discovery, and Relationships

By Beatrice Parmigiani | Project Coordinator

A look back at the year we shared together

As the school year comes to a close, it’s time to pause and reflect on the journey we have taken together. Within Stella Mission in Rome, the theme “Seeds of Hope” has been our guiding thread – a symbolic image representing all that we have planted, nurtured, and seen grow in the children day after day.

It has been a year full of small achievements, new discoveries, and meaningful relationships. Each child has had the opportunity to express themselves, learn how to be with others, and explore new experiences in an environment designed to welcome, support, and listen.

Welcoming and Routines
The first months of the year were dedicated to building a sense of trust and safety. Daily routines – morning greetings, snack time, lunch, rest, and play – became essential reference points for the children, helping them navigate time and space and providing a sense of stability. Each child, in their own time, found their place and gradually developed a sense of belonging within the group.

Learning Through Experience
Our educational journey was built around a wide range of activities designed to meet the children’s developmental needs and to nurture their individual potential:

Nature and Environment: We observed seasonal changes, collected leaves, planted vegetables, and played outdoors, fostering environmental awareness and a sense of wonder.
Autonomy and Fine Motor Skills: Pouring, manipulating materials, building, and using simple tools helped refine movements and encouraged increasing independence in daily life.
Language and Communication: Shared reading, storytelling, and singing enriched vocabulary, stimulated listening, and strengthened the ability to express emotions and thoughts.
Logical Thinking: Through activities involving shapes, colors, and quantities, children began to classify, compare, and organize – laying the groundwork for reasoning and simple problem-solving.
Artistic and Creative Expression: Drawing and painting activities using different techniques and materials allowed each child to freely explore colors, emotions, and imagination.
Movement and Body Awareness: Through motor games, physical activity paths, and theater workshops, children explored their bodies, improved balance, and learned how to move through space in relation to others.

Growing Together
Relationships were at the heart of the entire year. For many children, this was their first group experience: sharing games, taking turns, asking for help, managing frustration. Each of them learned something about others and about themselves, building connections and experiencing empathy, cooperation, and inclusion.

A Backpack Full of Tools for the Future
Looking back, each child has made important steps – some visible, others more subtle. Some spoke their first words, some overcame a difficult separation, some learned to dress on their own, wait their turn, or made their first friend. Everyone has contributed to their own path, filling their personal backpack with many valuable tools to carry into the future.

Thank You… and Onward with Hope
Stella Mission in Rome continues to be a space for growing together – children, educators, and families united in a shared commitment to care, listening, and respect. We close this year with gratitude and look forward to new beginnings, confident that every day spent together has left a meaningful mark.
