Females in Tech Initiative is a project which trains young girls from slums and deprived areas in Ghana to develop problem-solving skills by educating them in STEM, IoT and coding. The end goal is to empower the girls to facilitate technology creation and impact their community. This is generating opportunities for societal transformation and ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education in Ghana.
Female enrollment continues to decline progressively from the basic to the tertiary level of our education despite several international and local interventions. This has heavily impacted education among girls from underprivileged societies leaving many in a state of doubt as to whether they will ever get formal education.
This gap can be bridged through the active development of females by introducing them to STEM-related programmes. This is the reason for Females in Tech Initiative(FeMiTI). FemITI encapsulates the aspirations of Africa's ICT plan for young girls.
1. Transform and provide 21st century digital skills to girls from underprivileged societies across Africa. 2. Decrease the number of early marriages among young girls and equip them with skills for the digital world. 3. Demystify the idea that tech education is for boys
