Together, Let’s Stop Cholera in DR Congo

Progress Report – September 2025

Project: Stop Cholera, Give Clean Water in DR Congo
Location: South Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo
Estimated Budget: $85,000
Amount Raised So Far: $50
Planned Start Date: November 2025

Context and Project Rationale

South Kivu is currently facing a severe health crisis. A cholera outbreak is spreading rapidly, affecting thousands of displaced families living in overcrowded, unsanitary conditions with no access to clean water or basic healthcare. The Bukavu-Uvira road has been cut off, preventing the delivery of medical supplies and making the situation worse. Hospitals are overwhelmed, and many children are lying on the ground, suffering from fever and acute diarrhea.

Without immediate access to clean water, the risk of more deaths—especially among children—is extremely high.

Project Objectives

  1. Provide immediate access to clean water in the most affected areas by installing water chlorination points.
  2. Reduce the spread of cholera through community outreach and hygiene education sessions.
  3. Build long-term community resilience by implementing sustainable water solutions.
  4. Protect children and families, allowing them to return to normal life and avoid further suffering.

Current Progress

Thanks to our partnership with GlobalGiving, we’ve launched the preparatory phase of the project:

  • Identification of trainers and beneficiaries is underway.
  • The project is scheduled to begin in November 2025.
  • We’ve raised an initial $50, a sign of growing international engagement and support.

Expected Impact

  • Thousands of people will gain access to safe, drinkable water.
  • A sharp reduction in cholera cases is expected in targeted communities.
  • Lives will be saved, particularly among vulnerable children.
  • Communities will benefit from improved hygiene education.
  • Children can return to school and daily life, instead of hospital beds.

Budget Overview

  • Installation of chlorination stations
  • Training of community health agents
  • Hygiene and awareness campaigns
  • Project monitoring and evaluation

Total estimated budget: $85,000
