Eighth Quarterly Report for GlobalGiving

Project Title: Stop hunger for indigenous families in Honduras (53804)

In Red COMAL, food production is fundamental, prior to making productive investments it is necessary to promote training processes in order to strengthen the skills and knowledge of farmers seeking greater sustainability and sustainability of organizational and productive processes. Among the priorities is the promotion and organization of women in search of their economic and social empowerment, especially rural and indigenous women.

Main achievements:

In this period at least 32 indigenous women from three communities - San Nicolás, Llano de la Virgen in the municipality of Intibucá and the community La Victoria in the municipality of Marcala - received training in the management of honey bee hives.

Forty-five Apis Mellifera hives were purchased and three apiaries with 15 hives each were installed. In addition, to ensure the safety of the women, materials and equipment for managing the apiaries were provided, including overalls, gloves, smokers, spatulas, brushes, and honey extractors.

The first honey harvest is expected at the end of March 2024. This will contribute to the food security of the families and income generation through the commercialization of the honey.

On behalf of the women's organizations, we thank the supportive donors who, through the GlobalGiving platform, make possible the work of the COMAL Network in support of farmers and indigenous families.
