Challenge

The root cause of sexual violence against women and girls is gender inequality. As submitted by UN-Women (2015), gender inequality exists because of the unequal distribution of power and resources between men and women and the belief that men are more valuable and important than women.Considering Orolu, Ejigbo, Ila, Ife North, Atakumosa East and Ayedaade LGAs, Osun state, Nigeria as the target areas for this proposed project, gender inequality has been seen to reinforce unequal power relations.

Solution

The following cumulative impacts will be achieved from this project: 1. Improved societal norms promoting prevention of sexual violence. The first objective of the project will contribute to this by increasing the knowledge of community members on gender equality as well as Sexual Reproductive and Health Rights. The media publicity will assist in reaching large audience 2. Improved sexual reproductive health Rights knowledge among girls and women as a result of peer education training.

Long-Term Impact

The sustainability plan for this project is the uninterrupted provision of Sexual Violence Prevention services to the intended beneficiaries even when the fund is no longer available. The sustainability approach is to foster community partnerships so that they are strengthened and coordinated to continue with the prevention services. The following sustainability measures have been incorporated into the strategic objectives of the project and this will be carefully monitored to ensure compliance.
