From 18-24 Nov.2026, World AMR Awareness Week, our NGO will run a 7-day physical and online campaign to combat dangerous self-medication and drug misuse.Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) threatens millions of lives as misuse of antibiotics fuels deadly superbugs. Through street outreach, community dialogues, pharmacy engagement, and digital education, this project will raise awareness, correct harmful practices & guide people toward safe medication use before resistant infections become untreatable.
Self-medication and misuse of antibiotics are widespread, especially in low-income communities where drugs are easily purchased without prescriptions. Many people stop treatment early, share medicines, or use antibiotics for viral illnesses. These practices fuel antimicrobial resistance, making common infections harder and more expensive to treat. Without urgent awareness, drug-resistant infections will continue to rise, leading to longer illnesses, higher medical costs, and avoidable deaths.
This project combines street-level engagement and online education over seven days to change behavior. We will educate the public on proper medication use, dangers of self-medication, and the risks of AMR. Outreach teams will engage markets, motor parks, and pharmacies, while online campaigns extend reach. By providing clear, simple guidance and answering questions, we help people make safer choices and reduce drug misuse.
Improved understanding of proper medication use leads to reduced antibiotic misuse and slower spread of drug resistance. Communities adopt safer health-seeking behaviors, protecting families from hard-to-treat infections. This project will reduces healthcare costs, improves treatment success, and supports stronger public health systems. Sustained awareness contributes to national and global efforts to control AMR and preserve the effectiveness of life-saving medicines.
