Saving Lives of Mothers and Newborns in Uganda

Thank you our dear donors for the generous support and kindness. Over the past three months, your generosity has enabled us at Whisper’s Magical Children’s Hospital and Maternity to reduce maternal and infant mortality in Uganda.

Your contributions have a direct and profound impact on the lives of Ugandan women and children, helping us save lives and foster healthier futures.

Thanks to your support, we were able to save the lives of 14 premature babies. Five of these babies were critical referrals from nearby facilities, highlighting the vital role our hospital plays in the region's healthcare network.

Additionally, we have had 40 successful deliveries in our maternity ward over the past few months, ensuring safe births and healthy starts for these families.

Our emergency ambulance service has been instrumental in bringing pregnant mothers in labour to our hospital for further management. This service has also facilitated the transportation of critical referrals from different facilities to our hospital, significantly enhancing our ability to save lives.

In the past three months, three mothers brought their sick children for treatment. While on the ward, they went into labour and received free medical attention, ensuring the safety and health of both the mothers and their new-borns.

One of our dedicated doctors was sponsored to pursue a master's degree in pediatrics. We are excited to report that he has returned to our hospital and is now working full-time to save the lives of new-borns. His advanced training and expertise are invaluable assets to our medical team and the families we serve.

In Uganda, maternal mortality remains a pressing issue, with an estimated 336 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births (UNICEF, 2021). Additionally, the neonatal mortality rate stands at 27 deaths per 1,000 live births. These statistics highlight the critical need for the services we provide at Whisper’s Magical Children’s Hospital and Maternity.

Empowering Mothers, Saving Lives

n the past 8 years, Whispers has been dedicated to supporting mothers and their babies through our project "Saving Mothers and their Babies."

With the generous support of donors like you, we have made significant strides in ensuring safe and stress-free delivery experiences for over 500 mothers and have saved the lives of 80,000 children.

Our free ambulance service has been instrumental in providing emergency care to mothers in need, furthering our mission to improve maternal and child health outcomes.

Through your support, we have been able to provide stress free delivery to over 500 mothers and saved their babies.

We have also been able to improve our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to properly handle and manage babies that are born with severe complications.

Mothers that give birth from other facilities are also referred to us for proper management of their babies and we are very grateful for the many lives of babies and mothers that we have saved.

CWhile we have achieved significant milestones, there are still challenges ahead in ensuring access to quality healthcare for all mothers and children. We see opportunities for expansion, innovation, and collaboration to further enhance our impact and reach more vulnerable populations.

SAVING MOTHERS & THEIR BABIES

HAPPY MOTHER AFTER BIRTH

At Whisper's Magical Children's Hospital & Maternity, we believe the birth journey is much more than having our mothers show up when they are in labor and going home with a beautiful baby. We emphasize pregnancy and birth as a holistic journey to set our mothers and their infants up for a lifetime of health. To do that, we have free lamaze classes every sunday for our mothers where they excercise and also talk about their pregnancy journeys. Some of these topics have included breastfeeding support and weaning, malaria, nutrition, and hygiene and sanitation during postnatal period.

Every Thursday, we have free immunization for babies to help prevent them from getting diseases like polio, tetanus, measles, tuberculosis and diptheria. This has helped the babies grow up healthy, free from all those killer diseases in Uganda.

Last week, we gave out 10 coupons to mothers in the third trimester to give birth for free at our hospital. We are so excited and at the same time proud of ourselves that we are extending our facilities to the poor mothers in our community that do not have access to clean and safe medical facilities. All this has been possible with the support you all have given us our wonderful donors and for that we are very grateful.

We have also made sure to employ the best and experienced doctors and midwives to carry out the delivery of these babies hence reducing the deaths. Our doctors and midwives are very professional and good at what they do.

We also have a well equiped NICU for babies that are born with complications and prematures. This Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has 24 hour surveillance and nurses 24/7. This has helped reduce the deaths of babies since there is easy access to medical care.

We have a target of $36,000 and with your help we have managed to get $23,095 and we have $12,095 reamaining to hit our target. We believe with your continued support, we will be able to raise the reamaining balance to enable us save more lives and give out free coupons to mothers in rural areas in Eastern and enable them get access to quality delivery services.
