Your contribution to Patricia's therapies

Dear GlobalGiving community and friends of Patronato foundation.

I hope you are healthy and well.

This time we want to share the story of Patricia *, one of the women who receives support from the project with the donations we receive through GlobalGiving.

Patricia lives in Medellín - Colombia with her husband, her two sons and her granddaughter Laura *, who is 13 years old and came to our foundation seeking support in psychology and psychiatry consultations as a treatment for her depression, a condition she has suffered for some years.

Since January, Patricia joined the project and has received virtual psychology consultations and face-to-face workshops that are free, where she has managed to learn to do various crafts and has received training in entrepreneurship. In these workshops, she also shares with other grandmothers and mothers, who, like her, take charge of the work of caring for and raising children.

With the project, Patricia has strengthened many skills that have allowed her to start her business selling clothing and circular fashion, since her economic situation has been greatly affected since the pandemic began.

In the project, Laura has also received art therapy workshops with other children and adolescents to strengthen life skills such as empathy, assertive communication, management of emotions, feelings, creative thinking and self-care for the prevention of violence.

Patricia will continue to attend the face-to-face and virtual workshops for the rest of the year and, together with her granddaughter Laura, will continue to receive psychology appointments, as well as other health care Laura requires to improve her mental health.

Your generosity is playing a key role in improving the quality of life for Patricia and Laura and that of many more families.

The role your compassion is playing in Maria life

Dear friend,

I hope you are healthy and well

I am writing this message to tell you about María*, one of the women who benefited from your wonderful donation. María is the mother of one of the children we provide help for clinical depression. María is 43 years old and currently works independently as a manicurist in a beauty salon near her home.

María comes to our workshops because she has been affected by the quarantine and the subsequent economic problems, caused by the pandemic. All of these has deteriorated the dynamics in her home.

María is in our therapy program and receives psychological therapies and virtual and face-to-face training workshops on entrepreneurship and violence prevention issues.

Our workshops help Maria to do controlled emotional discharges. They are controlled because Maria learns crafts and does group therapy in which she can speak more freely than at home and with women like her, mothers who are going through something similar. There is not only a transfer of knowledge but also of experiences.

So far this year we have only given the economic autonomy workshop because the project runs until December 2021. María will continue to participate in the workshops weekly until the end of the year.

The ultimate goal is that, by the end of the workshops, in December, women have the necessary skills to develop their own entrepreneurship or improve it for those who already have it. Also, seed capital in kind will also be given to women who have been more participatory, possibly Maria will be one of them.

Your bigheartedness is playing a key role in improving the quality of life for María and many women like her.

Therapies for Colombian women

Dear friend, I hope you are healthy and well.

I am writing to tell you about how your contribution has helped 31 Colombian women, between 23 and 64 years old. These women came to the Patronato Foundation because they are mothers of children we serve. Some of them have suffered physical, verbal, psychological, economic, and sexual violence. Others came to us because they have had many changes and affectations on an emotional level due to the pandemic.

Most of them are mothers or "housewives". Some of them worked independently or informally but the pandemic affected their income.

Stress, lack or loss of income, isolation, and having children at home without going to school can exacerbate domestic violence or stressful situations within the family.

It is through contributions like yours that we have been able to provide both group and individual psychological therapies with qualified professionals, offering techniques that help reduce domestic violence in times of coronavirus and help manage emotions to reduce the stress that the quarantine, lack of income and isolation generates.

Thanks to your kindness, the women were able to strengthen knowledge, skills and strategies in areas such as: guidelines, parenting models, establishment of limits, bonds, patterns and family structures, life skills, life project, self-love, grief, tools for resolution of conflicts, recognition of the various types of abuse and violence that affect women and children. Also, they learned the main routes of care and prevention of these cases, acquiring tools to act appropriately in the face of these violations.

From April to December 2020, we were able to carry out 19 virtual and 14 face-to-face workshops, for a total of 33 group work sessions, in addition to 180 individual psychological therapy sessions, which represents 246 hours of direct intervention.

During 2021, we want to continue working for many more women and mothers of our beneficiaries and with the support of the GlobalGiving community we are sure of achieving it.
