Be reborn

My name is Genesis, I am 28 years old and I arrived in Colombia in 2016. It has not been easy to start from scratch with my mother and brother, day by day we try to find better opportunities to lead a dignified life, we have had moments of uncertainty and impotence, I have felt helpless, humiliated and mistreated and to all this I have added having to forget what one day I was and built as a person. That has been devastating.

I have managed to establish myself in the municipality of Medellín, I have worked in clothing, footwear and food sales, I have also started selling all kinds of items, food and sweets; I have trained in confectionery and I hope through this to get a better job. Like many families, the pandemic hit us hard, this made us go back to the beginning and almost lose hope of continuing. It was not easy, but thanks to the support of neighbors and institutions such as the Fundación Patronato, we managed to recover the balance that we have been building all these years.

Not everything has been bad, Colombia has left me, in addition to new experiences, a wonderful daughter who is already 3 years old, who, like my brother and my mother, encourages me to continue day by day. In addition, I have met many people like Mrs. María, who taught me the business of selling clothes so as not to depend on anyone, I have learned how and where to sell, where to buy and how to reach customers. Arriving in Colombia has been challenging for me, but at the same time it has provided opportunities for me and my family.

Today I thank all the people who, through the Patronato Foundation, make it possible with their contribution for many vulnerable women to acquire tools to transform their reality and that of their families.

Your support is invaluable to us; Thank you very much again!
