Impact in Practice

By Rajeshwari Narsimha | Communication Associate

Two more vans added to the fleet!
Two more vans added to the fleet!

This report brings together Aasraa's work across crisis response, education, skill development, and community engagement. From supporting families affected by natural disaster in Chamoli to expanding hands-on training through new skill labs, from student achievements in innovation to milestones in placements and partnerships, it reflects efforts that span both urgent needs and long-term pathways. It offers a view into the work being done on the ground-where learning, support, and opportunity come together to create real change. We hope you enjoy reading this update and see the impact you help us make! Thank you very much for your unwavering support!

Aasraa at 17:  Impact, Resilience, and Hope

As Aasraa turns 17, we gather not just to celebrate a milestone, but to honor a journey-17 years of Aasraa. What began as a vision has grown into a thriving community-a family that has touched over 33,000 children since 2009 and continues to support more than 14,000 children across 80 projects. This occasion is both a reflection and a promise: a commitment to continue creating opportunities and transforming lives.

Standing Strong in Times of Crisis

The past quarter reminded us of the power of collective action. Following the devastating cloudburst in Chamoli, a district in Uttarakhand, India, families were left grappling with loss and uncertainty. Months later, harsh winters deepened their struggles.

In response, Aasraa extended a helping hand. In January 2026, a Disaster Relief Material Distribution Program reached 48 families across remote villages in Nanda Nagar Block. This effort, supported by Mountain Children Foundation and PwC India Foundation, ensured that essential winter supplies brought warmth—and hope—to those who needed it most.

Building Skills, Creating Futures

On 23rd January 2026, Aasraa marked a significant step toward empowering youth with the inauguration of state-of-the-art F&B Service and Housekeeping Labs, supported by Help Alliance.

These facilities at the SkillAbility Centre are more than classrooms-they are gateways to dignified livelihoods. The occasion was graced by distinguished guests including Ms. Sangeeta Sharma, General Manager, Sales, Lufthansa, Mr. Rohit Sabherwal, Director, Integra Quadrangle Advisors LLP, and partners from leading hospitality organizations in Dehradun.

Partnerships that Transform Lives

Impact is never created alone. For over a decade, Aasraa’s collaboration with Caring Hand for Children has opened doors to quality education for countless children.

On 27th January 2026, Mr. Vinay Chhabra and Mrs. Vindu Chhabra, and Ms. Madhu Chandok visited Aasraa, witnessing firsthand the transformative impact of this enduring partnership.

Ensuring Safe Journeys

Mobility is access. And access changes lives.

On 4th February 2026, Aasraa expanded its transportation fleet with 2 new school vans donated by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation. With this addition, the fleet now stands at eight vehicles, ensuring safer and smoother journeys for children. The inauguration brought together dignitaries from ONGC and the Uttarakhand Women Empowerment & Child Development Department.

Young Minds, Big Dreams

The spirit of innovation shone brightly this year.

A young changemaker, Mohit, earned a place among the top 16 out of 157 projects at the Inspire Award District Level Science Competition. His project, an “Anti-Drone Detection Radar System,” has now advanced to the state level-an inspiring testament to mentorship and curiosity.

Equally remarkable is Maina, the youngest finalist in a state-level hackathon organized by SCERT ( State Council of Educational Research and Training) Uttarakhand. Her project, Raksha Kawach, reimagines women’s safety through innovation-combining wearable technology, emergency alerts, and sustainability-driven design.

Recognition that Inspires

On 17th February 2026, Aasraa’s Chairperson, Ms.Shaila Brijnath, was honored at the Vishwamangalya Sabha by Honourable Chief Minister of the state of Uttarakhand, Mr. Pushkar Singh Dhami.

This recognition belongs to every child, every supporter, and every team member who continues to believe in the power of change.

From Training to Transformation

A proud milestone was achieved as Aasraa’s first batch of Beauty & Wellness trainees stepped into the professional world. Diksha and Naina secured placements with Geetanjali Salon, marking the beginning of promising careers and a future built on skill and confidence.

Learning Beyond Classrooms

In March, 40 children embarked on a three-day educational journey to Amritsar. From the spiritual calm of Golden Temple to the historic legacy of Jallianwala Bagh and the electrifying atmosphere of Wagah Border, the experience enriched minds and created lasting memories.

Stories that Define Us

At the heart of Aasraa are stories of courage -like that of Diya.

Joining through the Street Smart program, Diya faced profound challenges, including hearing impairment and personal loss. Yet, with resilience and support, she rebuilt her confidence. Today, she studies at Bajaj Institute of Learning, topping her class and advancing ahead-her journey a powerful reflection of what opportunity can achieve.

A Future Filled with Promise

As we celebrate 17 years of Aasraa, we also look ahead-with renewed purpose, stronger partnerships, and unwavering belief in every child’s potential.

This milestone is a reminder: change is possible, hope is powerful, and together, we can do more.

Here’s to many more years of impact, resilience, and transformation.
